Service Awards

  • Each year at convocation, employees of the district who most recently completed 5 years, 10 years and 15 years receive a lapel pin. Employees who most recently completed 20 years of service receive a plaque. Employees who most recently completed 25 or 30 years of service receive an acrylic award. Note:  Years of service recognized only include years of service in the Smithville School District.

Special Education Advocate of the Year

  • Each year at convocation, the Director of Special Education and Student Service presents the Special Services Advocate of the Year award. This award was first presented in August 1997. It has become a tradition of reflection and recognition of the efforts and accomplishments of dedicated individuals in our schools and community. The intent of this award is to recognize annually an individual who had demonstrated a commitment to special students and programs in the Smithville School District. The award recipient receives a plaque.

Rotary Teacher of the Semester

  • On a rotating basis, building leadership teams select a certified employee to be recognized as the Rotary Teacher of the Semester. The intent of this award is to publicly recognize a certified employee who has demonstrated excellence in their profession and gone above and beyond in service in our schools and community. The award recipient receives lunch and a plaque.

Board Recognition Dinner

  • Each year on the evening of the December Board of Education meeting, individuals in our schools and community are recognized for going above and beyond to support students in the Smithville School District. Individuals recognized by the Board of Education receive dinner and a plaque.

Tradition of Excellence Award

  • Traditional of Excellence awards will be presented to employees each month. Anyone can nominate an employee for this award by completing an electronic nomination form that is available online. Individuals making a nomination will be asked to choose at least one of our district's shared beliefs that he/she feels the nominee supports. Individuals will also be asked to share how they feel the nominee supports the chosen belief(s). Nominees will receive a Tradition of Excellence pin and a certificate. Recognition will happen on the job and award recipients will be invited to attend recognition night at the January or May Board of Education meetings.

Northland Excellence in Education

  • Each year in April, the Smithville School District participates in the Northland Excellence in Education Banquet. Employees in the Smithville School District nominate individuals in the following categories:  teaching, service, volunteer and business. Nominees for teaching and service will automatically become Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year nominees. Award recipients receive dinner and an acrylic plaque.

Teacher of the Year

  • Individuals nominated in the teaching category for the Northland Excellence in Education award are the nominees for the Teacher of the Year award. A committee made up of the previous year’s winner, a representative from the City of Smithville, a representative from the Smithville Chamber of Commerce, representative from the PTO, a member of the Board of Education, and a representative of the Smithville Educational Foundation will review nominations forms and will select the award recipient. The district will seek out a sponsor for this award on an annual basis. The award recipient will receive a small monetary award and an acrylic plaque. The award recipient will be encouraged to entered in the Regional Teacher of the Year recognition.

    The first recipient of this award will be announced in the spring of 2017.

Support Staff of the Year

  • Individuals nominated in the service category for the Northland Excellence in Education award are the nominees for the Support Staff of the Year award. Regional Teacher of the Year

  • The Teacher of the Year will be encouraged to submit an application for the Regional Teacher of the Year. This recognition level was added to the Missouri Teacher of the Year Program in 2015-2016. If the teacher is selected as Regional Teacher of the year, the teacher will be encouraged to submit application of Missouri State Teacher of the Year.
